Finding Strength After Loss
A year after the heartbreaking loss of their son Seth in 2012, who tragically died in an apartment fire while serving in the US Army, Courage Rock founder and mother of Seth, Kim Markham discovered strength and encouragement through the support of friends, family, and the horses at Solid Rock Therapeutic Riding Center in Ohio. The gift of one of these special horses marked the beginning of a vision: to create a program in the White County area that would help others benefit from working with horses.

The Establishment of Courage Rock Stable Inc.
After three years of careful planning, Courage Rock Stable Inc. was established in June 2017. This non-profit 501(c)(3) organization is dedicated to providing free services to veterans, first responders, and qualified family members. The mission is rooted in helping others find healing and growth through equine therapy, inspired by the life-changing journey of Seth’s family.

A Peaceful Retreat
Throughout the winter and spring, the property offers a sense of wide-open space, with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. During planting season, the area becomes a secluded oasis, surrounded by crops. No matter the time of year, the humble, laid-back, and quiet atmosphere of Courage Rock Stable Inc. offers a peaceful retreat that helps visitors relax and unwind.

Program Growth and Future Developments
Our Program Evolution
Since our inception, we have experienced significant growth in both the scale and scope of our programs. What began as a single initiative with just six participants has expanded into five distinct programs that serve our community year-round. This ongoing development demonstrates our commitment to supporting the diverse needs of those we serve and reflects our sustained efforts to broaden our impact.
Courage Rock: Investing in Our Future
Courage Rock is currently in the process of purchasing a six-acre parcel of land. In 2026, we plan to construct an indoor arena facility on this site. This new facility will empower us to further expand our programs and reach even more individuals within our community, providing a space that supports growth, accessibility, and enhanced service delivery.

Our expansion is a testament to both the dedication of our team and the increasing support and involvement from the community. Each program has been carefully created in response to the specific needs and interests of those we serve, ensuring that our offerings remain meaningful and impactful. By continually listening to our community, we strive to provide relevant programs that make a positive difference in the lives of participants.
Our Mission is to engage and develop the relationship between humans and the therapeutic energy of a horse to strengthen the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of ones life.
