Staff and Our History
Courage Rock was created with passion for family and horses by Kim Markham who was inspired to offer equine therapy and education to others resulting from a life changing event. She shares this passion with Kevin whom she married in 2002, and her Mother Randie. You will learn as you read below, horses are a part of our family history.
Kevin Markham - Maintenance Kevin has years of carpentry, mechanical, and electrical experience and keeps the place in order. Although he doesn't find much time for the saddle, he certainly finds time to just hang out and talk with the horses. He has a passion for being around the horses and keeping their home in good working order.
Randie Heacox - Fundraiser Coordinator Randie was born and raised in the equestrian world by her parents Emmy Temple and Chuck Grant. She trained and competed in hunter jumper, and dressage, taught riding lessons and managed a commercial equestrian center collectively 55 years. Although retired, she still enjoys having horses as a part of her life, and helps out everywhere she can.
Kim Markham - Director / Founder Kim followed her mom Randie, and grandparents with the horses and trained for years and has a passion to help others through the communication with horses. Kim started when she was old enough to walk, in a western saddle, showed in driving pleasure, hunter jumper and the later part of her career in dressage often riding her grandfathers Grand Prix horses. Kim is a PATH Intl certified instructor, and also teaches horseback riding to children and adults with disabilities.
Chuck & Emmy were a huge influence in our lives and we are grateful for all that they have taught us in horsemanship and family values. Some of their greatest achievements are once in a lifetime events.
Emmy was one of the founders of NODA (Northern Ohio Dressage Association) and was a dressage judge in the 1984 Los Angeles summer equestrian Olympics. She taught many students in her day.
Chuck retired from the cavalry and continued training horse and rider earning his name in the USDF Hall of Fame and is considered "The Father of Dressage. He is an author of four books and many magazine articles.
